What is lanolin?

Lanolin is a natural waxy substance produced by a sheep to make its fleece waterproof, breathable, and aids temperature regulation. When the wool is removed during shearing, the natural lanolin is stripped by detergents during washing.

New wool nappy wraps need lanolising before their first use, and existing wool covers must be lanolised periodically to maintain water resistance. By lanolising your wool covers you are returning the wool’s natural breathable and water-repellent properties. Wool nappy wraps can resist water, and odours and naturally repel dirt with just the occasional wash and airing between uses. They are a popular wrap choice for nighttime reusable nappies.
